---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Job Announcement - Post-Doctoral Research Opportunity at Los Alamos National Laboratory ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Geoff Reeves (reeves@nis-pop.lanl.gov) The Space and Remote Sensing Sciences group (NIS-2) of Los Alamos National Laboratory announces an opening for post-doctoral research associate to work on magnetospheric physics and energetic particles. Ongoing Los Alamos programs include building, flying, and analyzing data from energetic particle detectors on both the Global Positioning Spacecraft (GPS) and on a series of geosynchronous satellites. We are also actively engaged with energetic particle research with instruments on NASA and ESA satellites including POLAR, CLUSTER, and others. Principal responsibilities will include the analysis of energetic particle data from the POLAR and CLUSTER satellites, development of software tools and web-based information systems, participation in ongoing research within the team, and publication of scientific results. Current research interests within the NIS-2 energetic particle team include storm/substorm research, solar energetic particle events, relativistic electron enhancements, magnetospheric particle boundaries, radiation belt structure and dynamics, Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) imaging, solar-magnetosphere and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, wave-particle interactions, energetic particle acceleration processes, advanced visualization of multi-satellite data, and space weather applications. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in space physics, magnetospheric physics, or a related field, demonstrated ability to coordinate large data sets from multiple instruments and multiple satellites, strong computer skills, an active publication history, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a research team.
