5. Phone Number Change - Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: Kile Baker (kile_baker@jhuapl.edu)
On February 9, 1998 The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
(JHU/APL) will be changing its telephone area codes and exchange numbers.
While both the area codes and exchange numbers will be changed, the 4-digit
station numbers will remain the same.
The new area code for the Laboratory's Washington, DC area telephone numbers
will be 240, and the exchange will be 228. Thus, the Laboratory's main
number for Washington calls will be (240) 228-5000. The direct in-dial
number for these calls will be (240) 228- and the same 4-digit number as is
now used.
The new area code for the Laboratory's Baltimore area telephone numbers will
be 443, and the exchange will be 778. Thus, the main Baltimore number will
be (443) 778-5000. The direct in-dial number for Baltimore calls will be
(443) 778- and the same 4-digit number as is now used.
If you are calling long distance from outside the Washington or Baltimore
areas, you can use either the (240) 228-xxxx number or the (443) 778-xxxx
number.
If you are used to calling someone at APL using the number (301) 953-6000
followed by punching in the person's extension number (xxxx), you now only
need to call (240) 228-xxxx to direct dial that person.
