--------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Announcement for IAGA Division IV Working Group IV.2 Meeting "Turbulence and Shock Waves in the Heliosphere" --------------------------------------------------------------- From: I. S. Veselovsky (veselov@dec1.npi.msu.su) IAGA 8th Scientific Assembly, Uppsala, Sweden IAGA Division IV Working Group WG IV.2 Meeting "Turbulence and shock waves in the heliosphere" Monday, August 11, 1997 1. Scientific discussions. 2. Recommendations about the next IAGA Symposia on turbulence and shock waves in the heliosphere. Scientific discussions will be focused on the principal aspects of the turbulence and shocks in the inner and outer heliosphere: sources, structure and evolution, sinks. Theoretical and computer models, experimental and observational works and their intercomparison can be considered. Interdisciplinary links and applications are very important. Among them are the solar wind heating and acceleration problem, dynamical processes in the solar wind source region, in the interaction region with the interstellar medium and bodies inside the heliosphere: planets, especially Earth, comets etc. Diagnostic tools include direct measurements in space, interplanetary scintillations, optical and radio emission, energetic particle observations, effects in the magnetosphere and ionosphere, geomagnetic manifestations and others. The list of subjects is not complete and intend only to call your attention to the problems of the Working Group IV.2. The working group meeting is designed for a more interactive discussion and will be in addition to the regular symposia of Div. IV, which include many of the topics mentioned above. We anticipate to have interesting scientific discussions and learn about solved problems, open questions, ideas and perspectives of the theoretical and experimental works. Abstracts of contributions should be sent by February 28, 1997 to the LOC using the web address ( http://www.irfu.se/iaga_97.html ) and the copy to the WGIV.2 Chairman ( veselov@dec1.npi.msu.su ). As a result of these discussions recommendations can be done about future symposia at the next IUGG/IAGA General Assembly in 1999. To begin with the program preparation of the meeting please reply at your earliest convenience and send me the enclosed questionnaire by February 28, 1997.
