2. SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SCOSTEP/STEP WG-1 WORKSHOP ON MEASUREMENTS
AND ANALYSES OF THE 3-D SOLAR MAGNETIC FIELD
---------------------------------------------------------------------
From: S. T. Wu (wu@cspar.uah.edu)
(Editor's note: The Meetings Calendar on SPA home page has detailed
information on the workshop.)
Workshop: SCOSTEP/STEP WG-1 Workshop on Measurements and Analyses
of the 3-D Solar Magnetic Field.
Date: April 9, 10, 11, 1996 (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
Place: Huntsville, Alabama, USA.
Contact: Pat Corder at "stepwg1@cspar.uah.edu"
Deadline for the abstract is: January 31, 1996.
Deadline for Registration is February 15, 1996. The registration
fee is $110.00.
PROGRAM: The program is divided into sessions that cover key focus
areas listed below. There will be an introductive overview at the
beginning of the workshop. Each session will start with two invited
talks. This will be followed by oral presentations, and the sessions
will end with an open debate each day. We will also have parallel
poster sessions.
PRELIMINARY AGENDA:
First Day: Introductive overview to clearly state the objectives of
the workshop. Ground/space based instrumentations,
measurement techniques, data reduction and analyses.
Issues such as: How do we resolve the problem of ambiguity
of the measurement of B-field? What limits the accuracy
of magnetic field determination given perfect stokes
profiles? etc.
Second Day: Theory and modeling issues such as: How can we iterate to
get the solution of 3-D field. What is the effect of data
noise/errors of the solution? What is the data accuracy
needed? What information do we want to get out of the
models? etc.
Third Day: New results - SOHO, Yohkoh and others. A Summary
presentation covering what observation, theory and modeling
will be needed to accomplish our understanding of the
three-dimensional solar-B field to reveal the fundamental
physics of solar atmospheric dynamics.
