Lecturer in Astronomy (ref.941650) This lecturing and research post is available for 5 years from 1 September 1995. Applicants should have a strong record of original research in, and the potential for making a significant contribution to an area that overlaps with those currently studied in the Unit. The appointee will be required to lecture in some areas of Astronomy, Applied Mathematics and/or Computation. Salary will be in the range UK16,075 to UK27,869 pa inclusive. Senior Research Fellow/ Lecturer in Astronomy (ref.94166) This position is available for between 13 to 18 months from 1 September 1995 or at other times by agreement. Applicants should have a distinguished research record and a strong international reputation in an area of Astronomy that overlaps with those currently studied in the Unit. The appointee will have a light teaching load and be required to lecture in some area of Astronomy, Applied Mathematics or Computation. Suitable applicants may also be appointed as a Perren Fellowship in Astronomy. Salary will be in the range UK22,627 to UK27,869 pa inclusive or in exceptional circumstances up to UK30,890. Perren Senior Research Fellowships in Astronomy (ref.94167) These Fellowships are for periods of 1 month to several months and may start at any time. Applicants should have distinguished research achievements and a strong international reputation in an area of Astronomy that overlaps with those of the Unit. There will be no teaching duties other than to give one lecture to a general astronomical audience. Fellows may be paid a salary or, if they are on sabbatical leave and have other sources of income a subsistence allowance. The salary will be pro-rata up to UK33,292 pa inclusive. Research interests in the Astronomy Unit include theoretical work, observations and space experiments, in Magnetospheric and Space Plasma Physics, Solar System Bodies and Dynamics, Helioseismology and Solar Physics, Stellar Physics and Star Formation, Stellar and Galactic Dynamics, Cosmology, and Gravitation.
