---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS FOR IAGA SYMPOSIUM IS213/303 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: A. Nishida (nishida@gtl.isas.ac.jp) IAGA Symposium IS213/303: Dynamics of the Magnetotail and High-Latitude Nightside Ionosphere At the upcoming IUGG/IAGA meeting in Boulder, Colorado, July 2-14, 1995, we will convene a symposium on the dynamics of the magnetotail and high-latitude nightside ionosphere. This symposium will focus on the physics of the magnetotail and its coupling to the ionosphere. Topics will include the IMF control of tail structure and plasma convection, plasma heating and acceleration in the tail, plasmoid/flux rope formation and development, correspondence between various precipitation regions and internal structures of the tail, causes and consequences of the upstreaming ions from the nightside ionosphere, and kinetic properties of the tail plasma and their relation to macroscopic dynamics. The Symposium is planned for 3 (Monday) and 4 (Tuesday) July according to the provisional timetable published in the IAGA News. We invite your participation through submitted contributions. The abstract deadline is February 1, 1995 at AGU Headquarters. Please contact AGU for more information. The address is IUGG XXI General Assembly American Geophysical Union 2000 Florida Avenue, NW Washington DC 20009 USA Please fax or mail a copy of the abstract to A.
