-------------------------------------------------------------- 3. FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS FOR IAGA SYMPOSIUM 8 -------------------------------------------------------------- From: R. Lallement (rosine.lallement@aerov.jussieu.fr) IAGA DIVISION IV SYMPOSIUM 8: Local Interstellar Cloud and the Boundary of The Heliosphere The physical properties of the circumsolar interstellar medium are the boundary conditions for the solar wind expansion and determine its confinement and the size of the heliosphere. Informations on this medium can be deduced from properties of species having entered the heliosphere, i.e. Anomalous Cosmic Rays and interstellar Pick-up ions abundances, interstellar neutrals distributions and differential behavior induced by coupling with the plasma at the interface. On a larger spatial scale, constraints on the Local Cloud surrounding the Sun and its companion clouds are given by nearby stars spectroscopy, while information on the general physical state of the Local Bubble (the interstellar "cavity" containing the Local Cloud) as its total pressure, magnetic field and cosmic rays content, etc.., comes from a large set of astronomical observations. The aim of this session is the confrontation of all these observations with those directly related to the size of the heliosphere, as the 2-3 kHz radiation and cosmic rays distributions, in a search for a coherent picture. Call for papers We have the pleasure to invite you to participate to this session and to submit abstracts for oral presentations. The abstracts should be sent or e-mailed to: R.
